According to the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) of 2009, Kuwait ranked 66 in the world. The number one spot being the less corrupt went to New Zealand, to the last place being the most corrupt went to Somalia. Saudi Arabia, Oman, UAE and Qatar are all less corrupt than Kuwait is according to this index. To add more good news, Kuwait is becoming more corrupt as the years go by. In 2004, Kuwait was ranked 45. In two years, Kuwait managed to to fall almost 20 ranks. Screen shot 2009-11-22 at 2.24.48 PM

    I bet those ratings are based on what surveys they could conduct, lets just say theirs a lot more, do you think they investigated the peoples crimes against the country? For instance stealing da3m el 3amala or registering somewhere you dont live so you can vote for your cousin etc…

  • Then that would basically drop us down another 20 places.

    Liberal Genius true true .. i liked the registring somewhere you don’t live so you can vote for your cousin .. i think if they take into consideration all these things we’d be almost next to somalia for corruption

  • People, please, don’t act like some of those idiots in Parliament, read the fine print;

    1-The CPI is based on 13 independent surveys. However, not all surveys include all countries”. SO whatever survey’s the used on New Zealand aren’t the same amount nor type of the ones used in Somalia.

    2-This is a survey of a “perceived level of public-sector corruption”, not an actual Quantitative or qualitative study. Anyone who has done hands-on surveys would know the difference. It’s like someone walking around Baker street asking for ’5 minutes of your time’ as opposed to a mandatory survey with structured questions.

    3-The Last 6 countries aren’t even proper countries, they’re failed states doe to their political instability, NOT the professionalism of their workforce!

    4-Kuwait’s ranking has a confidence rating of 3.5 to 5.1. To me, that’s the equivalent of someone saying “You know, I HEARD about corruption over there, but I also heard there’s a lot of progress, so let’s give them a “C” average for effort!”!

    I agree there’s corruption in Kuwait, but there’s NO WAY you’re going to convince me that it’s more than Cuba, Saudi Arabia and Jordan!!

    The Aggressor, you talk of margins of errors like they actually determine or compile a valid point, nonetheless calling everyone an idiot (although it may give you a false sense of pride/self accomplishment) is quiet childish, what you might not know my friend is that non of the countries mentioned above are democracies which makes them less vulnerable to corruption because the ruler and his associates get what they want, it a given right, whereas Kuwait is a democracy where all are (presumably) free men , thus we can control how corrupt government is, my point is; the basis of corruption vary from one state to the other.

    So to an extent I agree with your assessment, in other senses I totally disagree, can you as a person steal from your government in Jordon, Cuba or Saudi Arabia? You can in Kuwait (Da3m Al 3amala).

    Another little example might help, a project like “Silk city” takes 30 years in Kuwait, wherein Dubai it takes 5 at most, you may wonder why, well its because Dubai is ruled by a despotism, meaning that I the ruler of Dubai have the right to do what ever I please, Kuwait on the other hand is a democracy, the Amirs son had to build the Marina Mall bridge with no license because of the amount of Beaurocracy involved, hence had the tables been turned and were that bridge being built in Dubai, the job would of been done without any hassle and it would of been perfectly legal, in Kuwait the case totally differs and that same bridge is considered a source of corruption because its UNLICENSED.

    &&&&& WHAT PROGRESS??
