What Ali Q is reading: The Road by Cormac McCarthy

I’m not talking about the movie; I’m talking about the book.

I just finished reading this book and I think it’s on the top of my list for “The Best Book That Ali Q Ever Read!” I’m not an avid reader but I do read and I do it for pleasure. The moment I sink my eyes into an amazing book I won’t/can’t stop reading it until I know what happens in the end and this is the case with this book.

McCarthy has written the perfect book about dystopia. However, he didn’t do it on a world wide scale but through the adventure of father and son who were venturing on “The Road” looking for life.

The book immediately delves into action and we don’t have that boring starts we get in most books. And you immediately learn who the main characters are and what they’re doing. We don’t, however, learn their names and they are simply identified by “the son”, “the father” and “he”. The father and son’s day to day event are described as they walk on a road en route to the shore. They are alone and the encounter only a few people on their way, some good and some bad. The book in general isvery eerie andvery gloomy. You’ll read about how they get their food and about how they’re constantly living in fear of the “bad people” and even death. The book is written in such a way that you feel the darkness they’re living in. It’s like McCarthy found away to turn every single word into an eerie image; I don’t know if it was because of his lack of necessary punctuation like commas and speech marks or if it was the massive use of short sentences.

Like I said, we never learn the names of the characters nor do we  learn much about who they are and where they came from. Through out the book they’re just the father and son. They have to walk across miles upon miles of road in a gloomy world all burnt to ashes. A world where people are almost extinct and their homes ransacked. We are never told exactly what happened and why or even how they survived.

Whether or not you love to read, I strongly urge you to grab a copy because this book is an outstanding read. Some of you might’ve also heard about a movie version coming out really soon so you kinda have no excuse. You can’t escape it.

“Underground” Nightclub in Kuwait?

I got this video through BBM. Unfortunately, I tried embedding the video on the blog, but the embedding feature is disabled. Here’s the (Link) to watch.

If you look closely, this is the inside of a tent. What they did was they dug a hole in the middle of nowhere and covered the sides with alcohol advertisements. They even paved cement stairways to the bottom of the pit and made a dance floor with tables on the side. All this just to have a club in Kuwait? How desperate are these people? This is really sad!

The retard filming this video said “امزهبين الشجرة حق راس السنه؟”..

Hello? Trees = Christmas. I think a person that’s desperate enough to make his own club should at least get his holidays straight!

Update: Thanks Bader, for the heads up on the video.

All I want to say is that I was really disappointed that David Guetta didn’t receive the award for the best electronic/dance album, which he really deserves for his “One Love” album.
