McFancy: Your Temporary, Designer McDonald’s

© The Cool Hunter

The people at The Cool Hunter came up with this amazing concept of a temporary luxury McDonald’s eatery that’ll be set up at fashion weeks all over; London, New York, Paris, Milan, Sydney and Hong Kong. They’ll be serving up things like the Burberry Burger, Chanel Fries and Paul Smith Sundaes; all contained in packages with the designer brand’s trademarks. Burberry with the plaid and Paul Smith with the colorful stripes.

Waiters in tuxedos will be serving you  with silver service in private dining areas or in one of the chic booths. Imagine the crowd McDonald’s on the Gulf Road would get if it actually looked something like the McDonald’s in the picture. No more B+F, Hub and Slider? I don’t know about that but it’ll still be cool to look at though.

2010, Out with the old, in with the new..

Dear Puddle of Red readers,

I have to say 2009 was a really short year. A year that passed by too quickly, yet full of joy, sorrow, moments I want to forget, and memories I will never forget. When it comes down to december 31 of every year, you have people that try to conclude the year by making lists of all the positives or negatives and solving them with New Year Resolutions, and you have people who simply wake up and flip their calendars to January 1, 2010. I personally used to look at life as if it was a timed check list of goals I have to accomplish or else I’d feel disappointed, and I think its about time to put that mentality aside and believe in something else. Some goals are barely achievable not because of a person’s dedication or ability, but the circumstances that revolve around him/her. Think about it this way, if life was based on constants and one variable, constants being circumstances that can never change and one variable being you, the only thing that can change is the variable, you! And without a doubt, I’m positive that when we all recollect the significant events that happened to each one of us this year, we will all learn from our mistakes and change to become better people. Change is a very difficult opportunity for many people to understand, but know this, “a pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty” and that “difficulties mastered are opportunities won” – Sir Winston Churchill

I wish you all a happy new year full of health, prosperity and success.
Sincerly,
Ali M.

Vegas.. Again!

After a two hour layover in the emptiest airport I have seen in my life, Salt Lake City International Airport, I finally made it to Vegas. This time I decided to stay at The Palazzo, which is part of The Venetian Hotel. Since I arrived, these are the chain of events that happened:

- The Palazzo has literally 3 or 4 hidden fees, which they do not inform you of until you arrive at the hotel. When we argued about it with the reception, they pulled out our reservation and showed us the part that says there are additional fees. The letters cannot be read unless with a microscope.

- After we entered our room, we realized there is no extra blankets or towels. So I call housekeeping asking them for what we need and they said they don’t have any extras because they’re 110% occupied. How can a hotel be 110% occupied? I never heard of that before, unless they have some of the guests camping up on the roof.

AMG’s Tribute To The Middle East

When it comes to the finest quality, the best performance, and the most efficient aerodynamics (keeping into consideration the luxury factor), I have to say ” in AMG I Trust”. After I saw this car, I take back that statement. When I first saw the SLS AMG “Desert Gold”, I was shocked. What were the people at AMG thinking? Okay, do this, close your eyes and forget we’re talking about a Mercedes Benz. Imagine I say gold body, black rims with gold outline, body kit and an exhaust system. Wouldn’t you honestly be thinking that I was talking about a prop car from Tokyo Drift? Go back and look at the history of cars AMG released, none of them are as tacky as this one. The saddest part is the AMG people call this car a tribute to the Middle East. Personally, I love the original SLS, I think the mixture of classic and modern design couldn’t be expressed any better. But with this hideous thing, I don’t know where the AMG group are going with their future plans.

Apparently a lot of people don’t like us…

I was Google-ing out of boredom and I read a link that really got my attention. It read:

“28 Sep 2007 Kuwait Forums: Kuwait suckss, i live in kuwait , and kuwait sucks, but i got no other choice but to live with the kuwaiti selfish community …”

I clicked the link and it was all just review after review of what mostly non-Kuwaitis think of Kuwait; some bad, some good and some just stupid. I’ve mentioned this before and I’ll mention it again. I love Kuwait and I love the culture that I was brought into. Even though it seems distant today, it still exists; maybe not on the streets but in homes, in mosques in the old sectors of Kuwait. Sure, the people on the streets in Kuwait today aren’t everyone’s cup of tea but it saddens me that we stopped caring about others but our selves.

We in Kuwait are very friendly (sometimes) amongst our selves but not as friendly with outsiders and sometimes we’re very ignorant and non-accepting. It saddens me that we have come to this because — we might not know this but — other people, mostly foreigners, don’t like what they see when they visit Kuwait or even live in it. Now, you maybe thinking why should I care? The reason is that if foreigners don’t like what they see then the whole world most likely won’t like what they’re seeing either. How do you want people to respect us when we don’t respect them. It is true that “When in Rome, do as the Romans do” but that doesn’t mean that we degrade people or even judge them on the country they’re from and the color of their skin. For instance read what one anonymous writer on the forum posted (I can tell he’s Kuwaiti and I’m sure you can as well):

f*** you all,you will never stop thinking in our very vert rich comunity…god help you all. every one hate kuwait because we have every thing and you have nothing, and yes life is about money otherwise you didn’t come to earn it her, go and live in your poooooor countries and i will pray for you to find your food to eat.loooooooooool

Who says that?! Another person even replied with this:

if you realy have manners, you wouldnt sit there in ur f***ing chair typing on your old computer bad things about this “golden” country. not all kuwiatee people are rich, and all the rich people are donating money for you poop countries. in the past several years the kuwait government had donated more money than the money consirved to build stuff like dubai. if u hate kuwait this much leaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaave. by the way: “kuwaitee citizens are 1 million and the forighners are 2 million, so f***ing shut your mouth and thank god your not kicked out from here. by the way, ihave a pourshe, carrera, are you jeleouse know?! lool in your faces.

Sad. Very sad. (Everything is copy/paste and I didn’t mess with the grammar at all).

Take a second and just think about this. There needs to be awareness for this kind of thing.

I once asked a classmate of mine who was from India studying to be an engineer. And I asked him, “What do Indian people think of them selves?”. I explained further as to what I meant by the question and he replied, “We see ourselves to be very strong and decent but without the money.” By decent he meant, very polite and respectful. And he truly lives up to his word. Thanks Sidhu.

Read the thread for yourself and see more of what I’m talking about. Link

Kodak Moments at Il-Mbarakia

It’s not until you really leave Kuwait you start to miss the smallest things it has to offer. I had nothing to do last night so I decided to go cruising around the city taking the longest route possible from my place; I took the Gulf Road up till I reached the so called “Strip” where I took the round about into the city and turned right towards old town Kuwait aka Il-Mbarakia. I found the best parking spot in the world. Grabbed my camera and trotted into the wilderness of the old soug. I just wanted to take pictures for some reason; something that would contrast the way we live in Kuwait today. I’m definitely paying a visit during the busier hours to take more pictures at the fish market and the meat market but take a gander at what I, Ali Q, have to offer.

Your Move, BMW.. Checkmate!

Ali Q’s last post reminded me of the 2008 ad war between Audi and BMW of Santa Monica. It started off like this. Audi decided to show off their 2009 A4 with the following sentence “Your Move, BMW” over their dealership, and a week later, BMW changed their billboard to the M3 and replied “Checkmate”.

F U BMW, Audi and Subaru. Yours Sincerely, Bentley

I’ve probably told you before that I simply love a good advertisement. If not, now you know. The ads I’m about to show you aren’t new and some of you might have seen them before or atleast heard about them.

The story began with the Bavarian BMW dissing Audi. Then Audi dissed BMW. Then Subaru pretty much just had to say something about the Germans. Bentley’s chairman then flipped off BMW, Audi and Subaru with a simple yet very powerful advertisement. Bentley simply told them to STFU.
