Pinkberry Kuwait!

Pinkberry_Kuwait 1

From the West Coast to the Middle East, Pinkberry has finally found its way to our very own Avenues Mall. I’ve just come from the grand opening and I can clearly tell that Pinkberry has some mass appeal and is going to be a big hit in Kuwait. I had a little chat with co-founder Shelly Hwang, she was very polite and I won’t forget her smile when I told her I’m a huge Pinkberry addict and have been to most the stores in LA & NY. If you don’t know what Pinkberry is or have never tried it, your missing out. It’s definitely a two thumbs up!

Halo 3 ODST

videogames

Halo_3_ODSTI purchased Halo 3 ODST just before 3eid which was two days before the official release date, you have to love Kuwait’s disregard for such concepts! A new feature I like that makes gameplay easier is the new visor that highlights friendlies, hostiles and other iterative items such as weapons and vehicles, it feels somewhat like playing a Halo version of Metroid Prime. Another fun new thing is Firefight mode, it’s simply a contained environment in which you assault different hostiles in a series of waves, rounds and sets. After I finished the campaign on legendary I got sucked into Halo 3′s online multiplayer on Xbox Live, I’ve been kind of addicted to the game for the past two weeks.

Los Angeles Union Station

Most people would rather spend there Saturday nights out and about enjoying the night life LA has to offer. I on the other hand decided to go cruising around downtown between the hours of 10pm and midnight. Literally, cruising; my friend, my camera and I. Bored out of our minds we decided to pay the Los Angeles Union Station a little night time visit.

The Union Station is the central hub of all major railway routes that pass through LA. If I wanted to, I could catch a train all the way to Chi-Town, IL (I might just do that but not now…I don’t quite have the time). But I decided to snap a few shots here and there. Nothing AMAZING, just neat stuff. I didn’t take many shots mainly because I lacked the steady and sturdy surface of a tripod.

I think I’m going to make it a thing of mine to post pictures of random things that truly make up LA. When Kuwaitis think LA (even the Kuwaitis who study/live here) they thing hooka (shisha), Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Rodeo Drive…basically everything to do with shopping. They tend to lack the ability to go out and really feel what the city has to offer. You really need to get lost in The City of Angels to really see the true nature of it. There’s a lot of art, a lot of amazing things that go on at night that don’t involve clubbing and lounging.

So I want to get it out there and I’m going to try to visit places in LA that people seem to ignore and neglect. I’ll take as many pictures as I possibly can and I’ll be sure to post them on the Puddle. But enjoy what I have to offer now.

San Francisco Day 2

A couple of more pictures of the trip. Day 2 was mostly discovering the city, and walking around between Fisherman’s Wharf and Union Square. I saw the Bodin Sourdough factory, the Ghirardelli Chocolate factory, and the street in front of the piers, it was really nice. Unfortunately, the fun is over, I’m going back to San Diego in a few hours.

San Francisco Day 1

I just arrived in San Francisco! The first night out was interesting. We had dinner at the Urban Tavern on Jackson St. For a restaurant with a small menu, it had amazing food. The menu consisted of mainly one dish of each meat (chicken, fish, beef, pork) and  a vegetarian dish. After leaving the restaurant we came across bike marathon/protest that happens once every last friday of the month to support reducing public transportation and cars, and instead relying more on walking and bicycles. There were literally thousands of bikes, and for some reason one guy that decided to protest in the nude, so San Francisco! Other than that, I’m just waiting for tomorrow morning.

BBC Radio 1 – Live Lounge

I never heard Live Lounge on the radio, since it only airs in the UK, but its all about good music covers. Check out more videos on YouTube. They have many artists and songs.
There was only one song that was horrible, its Lady Gaga singing Viva La Vida (I don’t think I need to explain myself further).

HIV Vaccine Shows Significant Progress

This is probably the first time I post something about medicine, but CNN had this article which I had to post. I have to say this is magnificent progress in the world of medicine. Here are the highlights:

  • STORY HIGHLIGHTS
  • New vaccine cut risk of HIV infection by 31 percent in world’s largest HIV trial
  • Combination of prime, booster vaccines prove effective, researchers say
  • Researchers tested strains in Thailand; not known if vaccine would work elsewhere

Michael Jackson – This Is It

Michael Jackson’s final rehearsal for his London concert in ‘This Is It’. I honestly believe Michael Jackson deserves better than this. Perhaps they should have took their time to make a movie about his life, and release it 10-15 years later, so the generations that missed out can appreciate the legacy Michael left for the world of music. The movie is going to be released on October 28th in U.S. and is going to be running for two weeks only.

(Thanks to AFS for calling me everyday for the past two weeks and asking me on when am I going to post about this movie.)

Burberry’s Dip into the Social Networking World

trenches

Ever since Myspace launched everyone’s been up and on about social networking. People seemed to have forgotten how to socially network in real life and instead decided to jump on the Internet super-wagon and meet people there. I’m not old, and I am considered to be generation-internet like yourself (most likely) but I still find it sort of strange that people find new friends online.

Apparently almost 100 times the population of Kuwait is on Facebook and god knows how many people are on Myspace even. And this opened new doors to huge companies and retailers worldwide; since now they can market their products to millions upon millions of people on a single website. Then Burberry came along and decided to create their very own social networking website but there is a catch though. Apparently the website is all about marketing their trench coats and it’s quite ingenious you see; mainly because the picture you’re supposed to post are of you wearing a marquee trench coat of theirs.

The website, artofthetrench.com hasn’t launched officially as of yet but you can register for updates if you’re that impatient.

Raleigh Denim

denim3

I don’t know about you but I’m constantly on the prowl for what’s new and unknown; especially in the world of clothing. I don’t know if it’s because people quickly mark a brand generic. Especially people in the country I’m from. They see something they like and BOOM! it’s generic; no matter how rare it is. It’ll become generic.

Now back to the point…Raleigh Denim. At first glance they look normal but even closer you realize that these jeans seem to fit better than other jeans. The reason being that this brand isn’t made on a huge scale like Levi’s or Abercrombie and what not. Instead the people at Raleigh produce their denim using vintage machines and techniques. Simple concept: vintage machines to make perfect vintage jeans. Not only that, but they’re 98% produced locally in North Carolina in a husband-wife owned denim factory. That makes this brand not quite easy to find; so if you love jeans but don’t want to blend in look Raleigh up.

According to their website, one can find their denim at a few Barney’s New York or Barney’s CO-OP stores in California (that’s if your in the region) but they also retail their denim at a few other states. So no worries.
