Confusing Weather

dust

Last night Kuwait went from lightning storms and heavy rain to dust filled skies all in a six hour time frame. I hope we don’t have another long dusty season.

Sheikh Essa’s Rolls Royce in San Diego

I was at GarageGT in Kearny Mesa (San Diego) when I noticed a Rolls Royce at the shop across the street with Bahrain’s seal on the side. First, I thought of what a small world it is.  Then, I asked about the car. The shopkeeper told me that an American bought this car a couple of years ago and he’s keeping it within his collection of cars. This custom built Rolls used to belong to the Late Sheikh Essa ibn Sulman Al Khalifah (2 Nov 1961 – 16 Aug 1971) of Bahrain and currently values at 1.4 million dollars. Beautiful car!

My New Holga

holga 2

Seeing life through a plastic lens in a plastic film camera can’t get any better than this.

A week back I bought a  retro colored Holga camera from Urban Outfitters and it’s basically just a film camera which can do special, nostalgic and retro things.

It has a built in flash with four different colors for special touches. It has multiple exposure capabilities; where you can take one picture and then take another picture on that picture on the same frame of film. And the plastic lens also plays a role in the photography process; since plastic isn’t as smooth and “precise” as glass, the plastic lens gives you that grainy-70s-streaky-over exposed in some areas effect. It’s really cool.

What sucks about it of course is the fact that its completely manual, so its gonna take me some time to learn how to use the camera perfectly. And I can tell you now that my first batch of pictures isn’t going to be a really nice one. It doesn’t mean I won’t try though.

I’ll keep you guys updated if there’s anything worth updating and as soon as I get my pictures developed and put on digital media aka CD, I’ll upload them here.

Obama rolls?

We’ve seen sushi chefs trying to be culinarily creative with rolls by mixing vegetables, sauces and crispy fried crumbs around the rolls, but this chef mixes his culinarily creativity a bit too much with politics.

Free Trade Zone Shooting

I’ve recently been practicing auto photography over at the Free Trade Zone area, I picked that spot because it has an industrial look and I’ve noticed thats being using in a lot of commercial auto photography. I experimented with different shutter speeds and different angles that make the car look more dramatic and attractive. Different times of day affect the color of the car body and the overall image, these were my first attempts and I realized I favor close ups over showing the full car in the frame.

A closer look at P2BK

I attended both days of the P2BK event, the first day I arrived towards the end of the expo and I didn’t really get a chance to see any of the booths very well. The Arraya Ballroom was packed full with barely any walking or breathing space. To me that was the only downside to the event, that no precaution was taken to accumulate large numbers of people. I think a more suitable setting for this kind of event would be at the Mishref International Grounds Fair due to the mass crowd appeal. The atmosphere was very friendly, I enjoyed mingling and hearing what the booth owners had to say. I hope to attend again next year and I wish everyone the best of luck with their businesses, overall it was very plush event and really is something to be proud of.

A Day in the Life of Abbey Road

On Abbey Road, you can find the famous crosswalk that the Beatles used for the cover of one of their albums. It’s funny watching how many people on a regular day stop to replicate the original pose.

The Oscars

What does it take for a movie to win 8 oscars?.. Maybe the answer is destiny.

I wrote a review about Slumdog Millionaire a while back, I said that it was one of the best movies of 2008. Without surprise, it was! Slumdog Millionaire took home 8 oscars for best picture, directing, score, song, film editing, sound mixing, cinematography and writing (adaptive screenplay). Other winners were the late Heath Ledger for his role in “Batman” and Kate Winslet for her role in “the Reader”. Here’s a link of “Jai Ho”. Winner of the best soundtrack song. Enjoy!

A Day at Sea World San Diego

If you don’t want to spend the whole day waiting in lines at amusement parks, I recommend Sea World. I only spent two hours and I was able to see the whole park.  If you ever pass by San Diego, its definitely worth visiting.  There is one good show and the rest is all aquariums. Here are some pictures of the day!
