LIFE photo archive on Google

Google has done it, yet again. LIFE magazine and Google got together and created the best photo archive ever!

The photo above is of children playing what looks like table tennis on a home-made table. The photos are all organized by years and you can also search the images easily; like when your searching for a picture on Google images. Try searching Kuwait; you get to see a different side of Kuwait. Something we haven’t seen before. They have very rare black and white pictures of everyday life in Kuwait in the 50s and possibly even before.

Mini E

This is our second post about a 100% electric car, first it was Tesla and now its Mini!? The BMW Group will deploy 500 fully electric vehicles for daily use on the road, powered by a 150kW (204 hp) electric motor. The Mini E will be mainly available to a select group of private and corporate customers in California, New York and New Jersey. The Mini E’s world premiere will be at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 19th and 20th of 2008, well make sure to cover it. Making the Mini E available in Europe is being considered but word is still not final. Cutting-edge Lithium-ion technology is the power source for this contraption, acceleration wise the Mini E pushes 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.5 seconds and the top speed is electronically limited to 152 km/h (95 mph). The Innovative zero-emissions concept is seeming to sweep the nation, we’ll see what else is waiting at the LA Auto Show.

Takashi Murakami

Tokyo born Takashi Murakami is responsible for much of the Japanese contemporary pop art movement, and is referred to by many as todays Andy Warhol. Murakami seems to have bridged the gap between high and low culture by adopting popular genres from mass media and pop culture, then depicting them as thirty-foot sculptures, Superflat paintings, t-shirts, toys and everything in between. Murakami is best known for developing the “Superflat” style, the name Superflat touches on flattened forms in Japanese art, pop culture and manga. I was fortunate enough to browse Murakami’s Los Angeles exhibition at the MOCA, his exhibition has toured Tokyo, Paris, Brooklyn and is currently in Frankfurt.

Murakamki has been criticized for mixing art with branding and merchandizing, his self promotion techniques boost his consumer demand worldwide. Marc Jacobs of Louis Vuitton had invited Murakami to design a limited-edition collection in 2002, and ever since they have been collaborating on new lines and monograms. Murakami branches into hip-hop to design Kanye West’s Graduation cover along with two singles, Stronger and Can’t Tell Me Nothing. Directing the Good Morning video, Takashi manga-ized K. West’s trademark bear in the surreal graduation ceremony narrative. From multi-platinum grammy winning rapper to high fashion powerhouse, Murakami has an open mind when it comes to fusing different forms of art together, no wonder he made it on time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People list!

El Pescador Fish Market

Serving San Diegan’s for over thirty years El Pescador is a small family owed fish market/restaurant with a large fan base. First opened by a nineteen year old surfer in Del Mar and now residing on Pearl Street in the heart of La Jolla. El Pescador serves an impressive array of seafood appealing to everyone from youngsters to old timers. The concept is simple, customers either select their fish from the fridge to take home or request which one they want grilled on the spot. They serve excellent calm chowder and for those who don’t want to get too exotic with seafood I recommend the halibut sandwich. It comes with lettuce, red onion, avocado and of course halibut all sandwiched with fresh bread, the choices of crustaceans and fish are endless. The iPod blasting staff is very friendly which adds to the cozy atmosphere of the store, I highly recommend a visit.

DNA 11

DNA 11 gives a whole new outlook on custom and personal art work. Displaying your DNAfingerprint or lips is really simple with an easy online user interface where you can chooseeverything from size to colors. I really love the idea of personalized art and this would definitely appeal to all others that do. This would make great gift ideas if you could acquire the DNA samples secretly!

Bang & Olufsen VS Bose

Over the years I’ve been through dozens of earphones but the only two that lasted with me are my Bose and Bang & Olufsen ones. Design and material wise B&O never fail to impress but down to the wire Bose excel with superb sound quality and bass. You can really feel the sound difference when you compare them to other earphones. I favor performance over looks so I’ll side with Bose on this one.
