The Sputnik Watch. I love it.

I can’t get over how much I love this time piece. Clean and simple design. Looks and I bet feels very minimalistic yet it features most of the average digital watches specs. Heck, it’s even water proof (3 ATM)! It features an extremely minimalistic inverted LCD display and I absolutely love the way it looks. Matte. Oh and the strap is removable that means you can strap the watch with whatever fits into the strap thingy.

It’s up for pre-order also from the designers themselves, Kibardindesign. All you have to do is email the guys at info@kibardindesign.com. The thing costs 40 bucks and I really think it’s worth it. I think I want one.

The Aston Martin Cygnet. Why?

When petrol heads appreciate Aston Martin, that means they truly understand the definition of luxury, power and perfection combined on four wheels. When I first saw pictures of the Aston Martin Cygnet at the Geneva Motor Show last March, I thought it was an April Fool’s joke that was a month too early. This Smart ‘Wanna be’ is going to be retailing at $50,000 and you won’t be able to own one until you purchase a real Aston Martin. The chassis is based off a Toyota iQ, elements of the interior and exterior were simply replaced. This is Aston’s CEO Ulrich Bez’s statement about the Cygnet:

“First, we need a more sustainable product line-up… Second, we need to satisfy demand where we know it exists… Thirdly, we need to bring the company’s fleet carbon emissions down. The Cygnet is perfect for that. This is just a small, stylish and efficient runabout: it doesn’t need batteries or flywheels to be that way. So it’s not pretending to be something it’s not”

So instead of implementing Formula 1 electric hyper speed boost technology to gain horsepower while minimizing carbon emissions, like most automakers are developing for their super cars, Aston decided to come up with a miniature of a real size car that you are suppose to drive on weekdays while the +$200,000 Aston you just bought stays in the garage waiting for the weekend to come out. “We need to satisfy demand where we know it exists”? I’m sure every car owner is dying to own a miniature version of their super car.  I just don’t see where the Cygnet fits in with Aston Martin’s range of elegance and style.

The Box Office

I don’t mean box office as in Hollywood movies’ box office, I literally mean an office that is a box. Designed to occupy minimal space, the Amoire box office retails for $1800. In my opinion, the box office is completely not worth it. I would rather work on my couch in front of the coffee table than constraining myself in this coffin. Don’t get me wrong, the idea of minimizing the office space is amazing for small homes or apartments especially in modern furniture design, the designers just did not execute it properly.

iPhone 4 Exclusive Pictures

I got my new 3GS iPhone and ditched BlackBerry a couple of months ago, and yes the first thought that went through my mind when I saw these pictures was “Nooo… I just got my iPhone!”. Like every iPhone release date in the past, I don’t think we’ll be seeing this phone until the summer. According to gizmodo.com‘s exclusive pictures of the iPhone 4, there will be both a front and back camera to support the iChat feature that the phone is speculated to have. The speakers look definitely larger and the set up of the buttons is completely different. The only problem I have with the phone I see in these pictures is that it looks larger than the 3Gs and has a 90 degree edges, which the current one does not have. I like this new concept, but I expected something much better.

Sustainably Designed Macquarie Investment Bank in Sydney, Australia

One Shelley at King Wharf Street is the address of one of the most sustainable offices in the world. While taking an environmental design elective class back at the University of Washington we took at look at this building, we also studied many sustainable living spaces and how they have physical and financial impacts on both the businesses that are occupying the sustainable office spaces and the employees that work there. In this building, the famous architect Clive Wilkinson’s firm added a 10 story atrium with 26 different meeting spots that the employees get to choose between to pick whatever spot they feel comfortable to hold their meetings. Because the atrium floors are connected with different bridges and staircases to accommodate the movement of the 3,000 employees that work at the firm, the usage of elevators are reduced by 50%, 80% of employees say they love the meeting areas and how they are conveniently connected. What Clive Wilkinson’s firm have achieved is large sophistically designed office spaces built with sustainable materials and low energy usage, hence low environmental impact.

Abu Dhabi’s Ferrari F1 Roller Coaster’s Track Layout in 3D

This is Ferrari World’s roller coaster layout in 3D. I’m not sure if this is the real one, but the beginning section of the track is the same as the Ferrari World GM’s description in one of his interviews. The roller coaster and the theme park is suppose to be up and running by the end of 2011.

Furniture you can’t get at a furniture store

I’m talking about tables that look like they’re peeing on carpets and benches that look like sardine tins. These are just a couple of creations that the people at Straight Line Designs conjured up.

Their pieces might not quite match your leather love seat or your fine China dining room set but you can’t deny how awesome some of their things are. Everything they do is custom and I’m assuming that you can send them an email or give them a jingle and be like, “I want this. I want that. Ok?”

Check out their website. Click here.
