RIM’s Blackberry Torch

RIM is coming out with another Blackberry device early this August; the Torch looks like a crossbreed between the Bold and the Storm bringing a touchscreen and a QWERTY keyboard to one device. The interface is certainly more smooth and fluid, though I don’t think the phone’s specifications are up to 2010 standards. Phone developers are just giving us the same hardware with an exterior facelift, it’s about time we moved up from shabby 5 megapixel cameras and 512MB of RAM.

Major features include a 5 megapixel cam with flash, full QWERTY on a portrait slide, 802.11n support, and — of course — BlackBerry 6 with an all-new browsing experience and a host of other features that should help position RIM within earshot of its less-stodgy rivals. You’ve also got 4GB of storage onboard paired with a 4GB microSD card in the box, 512MB each of ROM and RAM, a quadband 3G radio that’ll travel well around the globe, a 480 x 360 touchscreen display (same resolution as the Bold 9700) measuring 3.2 inches, the typical optical trackpad down below, and an interesting new Media Sync feature that’ll let you sync your media library right over WiFi — something various third parties have tried over the years, but has rarely been offered as an out-of-the-box capability.

The Sputnik Watch. I love it.

I can’t get over how much I love this time piece. Clean and simple design. Looks and I bet feels very minimalistic yet it features most of the average digital watches specs. Heck, it’s even water proof (3 ATM)! It features an extremely minimalistic inverted LCD display and I absolutely love the way it looks. Matte. Oh and the strap is removable that means you can strap the watch with whatever fits into the strap thingy.

It’s up for pre-order also from the designers themselves, Kibardindesign. All you have to do is email the guys at info@kibardindesign.com. The thing costs 40 bucks and I really think it’s worth it. I think I want one.

iPhone 4 Exclusive Pictures

I got my new 3GS iPhone and ditched BlackBerry a couple of months ago, and yes the first thought that went through my mind when I saw these pictures was “Nooo… I just got my iPhone!”. Like every iPhone release date in the past, I don’t think we’ll be seeing this phone until the summer. According to gizmodo.com‘s exclusive pictures of the iPhone 4, there will be both a front and back camera to support the iChat feature that the phone is speculated to have. The speakers look definitely larger and the set up of the buttons is completely different. The only problem I have with the phone I see in these pictures is that it looks larger than the 3Gs and has a 90 degree edges, which the current one does not have. I like this new concept, but I expected something much better.

Vectorial Elevation: Design Your Own Laser Show For The Skies Of Vancouver, BC

Have you ever thought of designing your own sky laser show? I honestly have thoughts about how I would design them whenever I come across one. Commissioned for the Vancouver Winter Olympics, The Vectorial Elevation Show allows you to do so. Give this website a visit and you can literally design your own laser show online with the sequence and music you want. After they air your show, they’ll send you a video clip by email. I thought it was a brilliant idea so the lights don’t keep repeating the same patterns and boring the crowds.

The Ultimate Home Super Computer

40 24″ panoramic screens and 6 computers with Intel Core i7 975. I never even heard of that processor from before! What is the owner of this computer up to? I don’t think there is any job or task on this planet or for the next century that would require this much computers or screens.

The Unbreakable LCD Screen

I don’t think I would hit an LCD screen with a hammer just to test how tough it is. This looks interesting! The screen also bends without any problems. I was looking for information on the developers of the screen, but I couldn’t find any.

Update: I found a website that claims that this screen is a Samsung Development

Check-In To Take-Off At Dubai International Airport

“Whether you’re a frequent flyer or just planning your annual summer holiday have you ever paused to think about how your bags get from the check-in desk and onto the right plane at the right time? At Dubai’s new terminal three that involves more than 90 km of conveyor belts and the largest baggage handling system in the world. So how does it all work? Ben Thompson heads deep underground with Dnatas Jon Conway.”

Its funny watching other airports in the world that are at just half the level of sophistication and technology of Kuwait International Airport! (Sarcasm)

The iPad, Apple’s revolutionizing computers once again.

The long anticipated Apple tablet was finally announced just this morning at the 2010 Macworld expo in San Francisco. They called it the iPad (why pad?) and it looks just like what we all thought it would look like; a giant iPhone. According to the website, the wi-fi only version will start selling in March whilst the 3G+Wi-Fi version will start selling in April.

The price is pretty good, starting at $499 for the 16gb, Wi-fi only tablet. However, the prices do go up from there:

The device is roughly 9.7″ diagonally which is just perfect! The screen is as big as your average everyday netbook only without the bulky keyboard and ports. The iPad is just like a huge iPhone with the same accelerometers which means that if you’re crazy about those crazy games where you have to shake the $#!t out of your iPhone you’re going to just love the iPad.  Another amazing feat the Apple people squeezed into this baby is an outstanding 10 hour battery life!

If you’re thinking, “Eeeeew my screen is going to be so fingerprinty and oily!” Then you’re in luck there too because Apple is using a “Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating” on their glossy, multi-touch, LED display.

Astronauts Get Live Internet Access From Space For The First Time

Before, Astronauts had to send messages to Mission Control in Houston about any information they required and Mission Control would send them back specifically what they requested. As of yesterday, Astronauts now how live access to the infinite information available on the internet. They can check their emails, Tweet, update information and do basically everything through this new system, which basically shares a screen with a computer in Mission Control. This was the first Twitter update from space:

“Hello Twitterverse! We r now LIVE tweeting from the International Space Station — the 1st live tweet from Space! :) More soon, send your ?s”- Astronaut Timothy J. Creamer

Here’s a link to his Twitter account if you would like to follow up.

The High Powered Electro Magnetic System

The High Powered Electro Magnetic System (HPEMS) pulse can put a stop to anything electronic in a split second. This device was engineered by Berkeley Professor Dr. James Tatoian, the same person who created the see-through-wall radar. James Tatoian’s creations focus on safety  for police officers and soldiers. HPEMS can stop cars in high speed chases that put innocent civilians’ lives at risk. Its unbelievable how “Sci-Fi” technology we watched in movies a couple of years ago thinking they’ll never exist are indeed becoming a reality.
